Today we have published Kevin's original work Blore Heath 1459.
The following review is taken from the CD review of the Audley Brass recording "Blore Heath" recorded by True Arts which was written by Vernon Briggs for the Brass Band World.
Kevin Birch wrote Blore Heath 1459 to commemorate the "War of the Roses" battle in which the local Lord of the manor,,Lord Audley, was killed. This 11 minute piece also formed part of the bands 1998 succesfull bid for Arts Council/National Lottery Funding. It has a late medieval feel to it harmonicaly and a truly dramatic sense of the social conflict which leads on to striking portrayal of this battle and its melancolic aftermath.
Thus this is an unpretentious but interesting composition with appropriate sound effects that aptly conveys some flavour of the harsh realities of the districts history.
